John provides over 37 years of experience in studying environmental impacts of landfills, remedial sites, and implementing and permitting new technologies for more cost effective remediation and optimization of waste management practices for hazardous, nuclear and municipal solid waste. As President of Alan Environmental, he has evaluated over 200 innovative waste management technologies for waste to energy production including pyrolysis, gasification, plasma arc, and other treatment/conversion methods for a large Fortune 100 client. John worked with USEPA and numerous states to modify waste regulations and also to create new regulations for waste management and air pollution control programs.

As Director of New Technology during his 23 years with Waste Management, John was responsible for developing innovative methods for environmental assessment, remediation, and proactive management and design of active and closed landfills. He developed, permitted, and managed over 20 bioreactor landfill demonstrations, especially for increasing production of landfill gas and energy. John also worked worked as a consultant to USEPA and with the State of California Water Quality Control Board where he regulated and remediated several landfills. He has an M.S. in Environmental Engineering and a BS in Biology/Chemistry, both from the University of Illinois.
